Dr. Perry Moore, provost

Message from the Provost

Welcome to the Web site for the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Texas State University-San Marcos. We have designed this site as a resource for those who would like to learn more about academic programs, policies and activities at the university.

When President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Higher Education Act on our campus in 1965, he opened the doors to students who had thought college opportunities were out of reach. Today, that social contract remains at the heart of Texas State’s mission and is expressed through our strategic goals as we seek to:

  • Promote academic quality by building a distinguished faculty, managing undergraduate growth and developing the university’s culture of research.
  • Contribute to the social and economic development of Texas by expanding access to public university education.
  • Provide a premier undergraduate experience built on programs in a student-centered learning environment with clearly defined student outcomes and a rigorous level of academic challenge.
  • Expand educational opportunities, emphasizing doctoral program development and applied scientific and technical programs that address critical state needs.
  • Enrich our learning environment by attracting and supporting a more diverse faculty, staff and student body.

To reach these goals, we work with the President’s Cabinet, the deans and faculty of the academic units, staff, students, the community and other stakeholders to develop academic priorities and provide resources to move them forward. The provost’s office ensures excellence in all teaching, research and service activities that benefit the educational needs of Texas’ diverse population.

Thank you for your interest in the work of the provost’s office. Please contact us if we can assist you in learning more about Texas State University.

Sincerely,
Perry D. Moore
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
